Reading for Pleasure
At Rolleston we endeavour to instil a love for reading in our pupils. Reading is celebrated at Rolleston with regular opportunities to win books from our vending machine, earn certificates and win additional prizes such as reward trips. We have also opened a Treasure Island room, a room where everyone can go to enjoy a good book of their choice. This is a comfortable, calm environment where our pupils can read for pleasure.
The Learning Hub
In Autumn 2025, a new learning hub has been developed at Rolleston which will enable pupils to widen their choice of reading material. Whilst fiction books will be book banded to support the progression of reading, books will also be labelled according to genre. This will allow pupils to develop a passion for authors and types of texts that they wish to read. Each class has been allocated a slot on the timetable to use the learning hub every week. Pupils choose a book banded book and a book of their choice, which could include a non-fiction book. Pupils then return their books in their next slot, using the genre based stickers to ensure that books go where they belong.
Within the learning hub, there are also artefacts readily available for pupils to investigate in support of topic work. On the timetable, there will be slots available for teachers to take their class to the Hub to support lessons based on research where they can access books, artefacts and use IPads.
