Term Time Holidays
From 1st September 2013, the reference in law to Head Teachers being able (at their discretion) to agree up to 10 days of leave of absence was removed.
This mean that schools cannot authorise leave of absence unless:
- The Head Teacher/Principal considers that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application (this does not include holidays/breaks for any reason) AND
- An application has been made in advance by the parent.
Penalty Notices may be issued from Leicester City for parents who take their children on holiday in term time. (Please note - the school does not receive any finance from these fines)
Penalty Notice
If your child has unauthorised leave of absence you may either be issued with a Penalty Notice of £120 per parent per child (discounted to £60 if paid within 21 days) or your case could be referred by the Local Authority directly to the Magistrates Court
