Guided Reading

What is Guided Read?

Guided Reading is a 15-20 minute group session. A small group of children work with an adult to follow up from their Shared Read lesson. This focuses on a 'Reading Spotlight' so children can practice and consolidate reading skills they have been taught.

In EYFS and Year 1, each child has a guided read session 3 times a week with a focus on decoding, prosody and expression.

In Year 2, each child has 1-2 guided read sessions a week again with a focus on decoding, prosody and expression.

In KS2, teachers run 1-2 guided read sessions a week with a focus on the reading spotlight for that week.
